Simply Delightful Music Lessons

What Are Music Lessons Like at Musicologie?

Musicologie provides simply delightful music lessons for all ages and abilities at our neighborhood studios. The Musicologie Method® is at the core of every lesson and class we teach. It’s rooted in two things: a safe environment, and student-centered learning. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.

Music Makes Us Human

How Can Music Lessons Benefit You?

Music is magical. It's emotional. It's fun. It makes us feel things and see possibilities. It expresses love and hope and sadness and fear and wonder. Every culture ever known has had music. Music helps us learn. It improves coordination, language, reading and math skills. It nurtures our emotional and cognitive health. Studying an instrument makes our brains bigger and reduces chances of hearing loss and dementia. And get this - it's not merely that music provides these benefits; research shows learning music is the best way to get them. Because of all this, music lessons are one of the most important and impactful investments anyone can make in themselves or in their child.

Musicologie Junior

Our musical adventure for young children and their grown-ups. At each 40 minute class, we’ll sing songs, move our bodies, dance to different styles of music, read sing-along books, and play lots of musical instruments while your child reinforces their naturally-developing senses of rhythm, melody, rhyme, speech, and movement.

Private Lessons

Private music lessons are hands down the best way to learn an instrument and we offer them online and in-person. If you’re passionate and have a little bit of elbow grease, you’ll be playing or singing your favorite music in no time.

Accelerated Piano Lab

Accelerated Piano Lab is an innovative approach to piano education that teaches independent practice skills and accelerates achievement. Lab students move faster through their music, are better at practicing, and are more self-sufficient learners. For beginning to intermediate piano students, it’s the best way to learn.

The Assessment Lesson

We call your first lesson an assessment. Don’t worry! It’s not a test. It’s a chance for us to meet each other and make sure we put you in the right program. Once you claim your new student offer, a Community Manager will match you with a music teacher and schedule your first visit.

Choose Your Program

You’ll meet your teacher, talk about your goals, and decide which program is right for you: Private Lessons, Accelerated Lab or RockStars. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons. Students younger than 5 will be a good fit for Musicologie Junior, our group class for music exploration and private lesson preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need an instrument?

Not for the first lesson. You can use one of our instruments at our studio. But for ongoing practice you will need an instrument at home. If you don’t have one, no problem. Your teacher and Community Manager can help you get what you need.

What will I learn?

Your teacher will be guided by your goals. You'll learn exactly what you need and nothing you don't. If your goal is to sing Tom Petty songs around a campfire, your teacher will skip note reading and theory and go straight for the three chords you need to play any Petty tune. If you want your child to learn how to be a well rounded musical human with all the accompanying developmental benefits, your teacher will use a curriculum like Faber or Alfred's and take them through theory, technique and note reading, as well as playing fun songs they'll enjoy. If you're not sure - no problem! We'll match you with a teacher who can take you through different concepts and possibilities, always focusing on music you like.

How long will it take to learn?

Not as long as you might think! We'll get you (or your child) singing or playing right away at the first lesson. Within your first three months we'll prepare you for a performance at one of our open mics or concerts. We're here to fast track your learning and help you have fun playing music - today!

How often are lessons?

Your teacher will recommend a plan and program for you based on your goals. Typically, lessons are once per week at the same day and time with the same teacher.
